One pair each of our SURE FOOT Hard and Medium Pads with SURE FOOT instructional DVD and one set of Pods.
The Hard pad (ivory with the orange DuraFlex coating) is the firmest SURE FOOT pad and a favorite of Wendy. The material is a proprietary foam exclusively available to us for this application. The unique performance of this pad is that is provides virtually no rebound and is similar to bare ground when initially stepped on. However, as the horse stands on the pads it gradually gives way to his weight. And as it gives with the weight it will continue to do so until the entire load bearing area of the hoof is in contact with the pad.
When the horse steps off the pad, his hoof leaves an impression that will allow you to see where he carries the most weight in his hoof, such as the toe, heel, side. Areas with little or no weight bearing will leave little or no impression. With two pads, the difference side-to-side or front-to-rear can be seen. This visual will give clues into the horse’s habitual posture because if he is always toe loading he will not be getting the right input into his nervous system through the internal structures of the hoof in the rear of the foot.
The Hard pad is valuable to use in the presence of your farrier, as the impression showing how your horse is loading is not something that cannot be seen when the horse is standing in a barn aisle. Seeing the loading can be used in determining proper trim and shoeing, and assist in developing a rehabilitation program to improve weight distribution and balance while retraining the habitual posture patterns.
The Medium pad (violet with purple DuraFlex coating) provides a surface with more give and spring than the Firm pad, and provides a greater rebound effect that pushes up into the hoof. As the horse shifts his weight, the rebound effect creates a dynamic response. The horse will experiment with how he weights each hoof, and will continue to experiment once he returns to solid ground.
The Medium pad has two workable surfaces—a diffusion surface and a direct response surface. The diffusion surface (stamped with the SURE FOOT logo) provides excellent wear resistance and distributes the dynamic load to an area slightly larger than the hoof. The direct response, or uncoated surface, has slightly less surface firmness and allows the weight to bear more directly into the foam. These pads may be used with any horses regardless of size and/or weight.
The Pods – a great way to see how your horse habitually weights his hoof and allows him to explore new possibilities.
Pods are 7” diameter ½ round air filled domes with nubs on the surface. They are considered an advanced SURE FOOT product. The horse must be familiar and comfortable with standing on the other pads before attempting to use pods.
